In a recent survey conducted by pollsters Opinion Matters on behalf of Vodafone, the mobile broadband provider it was found that laptops provided by the companies are often used by the employees for their personal use. Most employees see laptops provided to them as a perk, just the way most people consider it to be perfectly normal to use office stationary for personal use.
The survey showed that close to half of the Brits used the laptops for their personal purposes after the office hours. The employees use this facility for browsing the internet using their own mobile broadband connections.
The poll also showed that around 65% of the managers knew about this practice and had no objection to it. It was not clear whether the remaining 35% thought the practice should lead to sacking of the employees or any other harsh measures.
